Projection, Sound and Video

Overview

“87” (2007) by Jonathan Ellery was his first solo exhibition at The Wapping Project. The installation combined projected numbers, moving images, and sound, with the audio component created by Jeremy Cox, presenting the sequence 1 to 87 in a rhythmic, temporal experience that transformed the industrial space. Accompanying the exhibition, Ellery published the book 87, which presents the numbers as a conceptual sequence, allowing the work to exist both as a physical installation and as a printed abstraction. This piece exemplifies Ellery’s ongoing interest in the intersection of sound, image, and numerical systems in contemporary art.
